A look at how a protein milk and iced-coffee brand stands against the Protein Coffee and Proffee set on paid, organic, own content, and the creators driving the conversation.
What we analysed: 97 brands in the Protein Coffee & Shake niche, 200 top creators across Instagram and TikTok, and 100 top niche ad creatives, over a 181-day category window (29 December 2025 to 28 June 2026) and a matching brand window covering Slate's own feed and Creator Tagged Posts.

Slate sits well outside the proffee pack on the metric that matters for creator marketing: earned advocacy. Over the 181-day niche window, 49 creators posted 51 Creator Tagged Posts tagging Slate for 1.08M creator views, more than Super Coffee, Chike, PRÉS and Throne Sport Coffee combined, and a top-15 finish among all 97 brands in the category despite a mid-tier follower count. That engine is powered by a city-by-city local-creator programme and a standing ambassador roster, and it already feeds 7 live creator-shot UGC ads, the exact format the category's longest-running paid creatives reward. The white space is concentration and platform: no brand in the category runs a retainer bench, and Slate's earned engine barely reaches TikTok, where the category's biggest creator views actually happen.
The follower count is mid-table; the creator footprint is elite. Slate ranks 12 of 97 on Creator Tagged Posts and 15 of 97 on Total Creator Views, ahead of every Protein Coffee and Proffee rival combined, and that gap between audience size and creator pull is what the rest of this report works through.
Across the 181-day brand window, 49 creators posted 55 Creator Tagged Posts tagging Slate, and most of them ran through one repeatable motion: a city-by-city local-creator programme on the Hummingbirds network, each post tied to a nearby Target, Walmart or Costco. This is a deliberate gifting and seeding programme stacked on geo-clusters, and it scales an earned-mention engine that already leads the Protein Coffee and Proffee set.
Because the calibration here is strong, 49 unique creators tagging in the window, the right way to read the paid versus organic split is amplification, not absence. Slate is already generating the exact creator-style content the rest of the category pays to manufacture, and 23 of the 55 posts carry no partnership tag at all, genuine earned mentions around retail launches. The question this raises is why so little of that advocacy reaches TikTok, where the category's biggest creator views happen.
The audience the content reaches for is consistent: health-conscious millennial women shopping major retailers, then gym and fitness enthusiasts chasing daily protein, then the proffee morning-coffee crowd. The strongest pull comes from big fitness voices like Derek Pratt and Miada Yousfi, whose Slate posts cleared 36,000 likes and 600,000 views inside the window.
Forty-nine creators tagged Slate in the window, most through a gifted local-creator motion tied to retail, the position competitors run paid budgets trying to reach. The engine works; it just barely reaches TikTok and runs almost entirely one post per creator.
| Brand | IG followers | Creator Tagged Posts | Total Creator Views | Active Meta ads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Slate | 86K | 51 | 1.1M | 11 |
Super Coffee | 109K | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Chike | 54K | 11 | 69K | 20 |
PRÉS | 3K | 18 | 21K | 0 |
Throne Sport Coffee | 27K | 3 | 5K | 5 |
Inside the Protein Coffee and Proffee sub-set, Slate is the clear creator leader: 51 Creator Tagged Posts and 1.08M creator views, more than Chike, PRÉS, Throne and Super Coffee put together. Chike runs the most proffee paid creative, PRÉS the sharpest small-brand gifting motion, and Super Coffee has gone quiet despite its following. The heaviest creator plays in the category come from the wider niche, where the volume operators live.
ChikeThe most active proffee paid programme. Chike runs 20 live Meta creatives, several creator-shot UGC, and pulls 11 Creator Tagged Posts from 9 creators around its Original Protein Iced Coffee.
PRÉSThe purest proffee creator play. PRÉS turns a tiny 3.2K following into 18 Creator Tagged Posts through a Hummingbirds gifting-and-seeding motion tied to Sprouts, the strongest earned signal in the sub-set after Slate.
Throne Sport CoffeeThe celebrity-fronted sport coffee. Throne leans on athlete and founder storytelling rather than creator volume, with 5 live ads and a thin 3 Creator Tagged Posts in the window.
The dormant giant. Super Coffee still carries 109K followers but earned a single Creator Tagged Post in the window and runs no Meta ads, a creator programme that has gone quiet.

The biggest names in this niche stack three or four creator plays at once; inside the Proffee set, Slate already runs four, an earned-mention engine, geo-clusters, UGC for ads and an ambassador layer, which is why the opportunity later is about adding and concentrating, not starting.
Start with scale. Across this niche there are 3,798 active ad creatives from 54 advertisers, and only about 12% of all creatives survive past 60 days, in line with the wider industry. Among the longest-running creatives, creator-shot UGC is the single most over-indexed style: 41% of the 60-plus-day winners against 36% of the full top set. The ads that last in this category are filmed by people, not studios, which is the UGC for ads play.
Across the Protein Coffee & Shake category's longest-running paid creatives, 36% are creator-shot UGC, and UGC over-indexes by +5 points among the ads that survive past 60 days. Slate already runs 7 live creator-shot ads, it is commissioning the exact content the category rewards; the lever is volume, not direction.

Who commissions at volume? The advertisers running the category do it at a cadence only a creator pipeline can feed: Humantra at 426 active creatives with three-quarters refreshed inside 30 days, RYZE at 377, Javvy at 365, TRIP at 273. This is testing, not posting.
Slate already runs 7 live creator-shot UGC ads, its longest survivor past 234 days, and that is the format the category rewards. The gap is not direction but volume: the category's winners run UGC at far greater variant counts, testing at a cadence Slate's 11-ad library does not yet match.
Across the 181-day brand window Slate published 64 posts on its own channels, 9 on Instagram and 55 on TikTok, and the typical one drew just 22 likes. The owned feed is a volume play, heavy on TikTok meme and user-generated reposts, and most of it earns very little. The brand's creators out-perform the brand's own feed many times over, which is the central tension of this report.
By format the signal is sharp. Slate's four Instagram carousels average 9,780 likes while its 54 videos average 497, so the most-published format is also the weakest by a wide margin. By pillar, the high-volume Relatable and Meme content averages 29 likes against 2,939 for the rarer Inspirational posts, a 100-fold gap. The feed is starved of the formats and pillars that actually work on it.
Read these as a creative brief. They are the own-feed posts Slate's audience rewarded most across the window.
The pattern is clear: Instagram carousels and inspirational posts vastly outrun the high-volume TikTok video the feed leans on. The top post at 38,575 likes is more than a thousand times the typical own post, a reminder of how much headroom sits unused while the brand's real engagement is happening in creators' feeds, not its own.
Your Inspirational posts average 2,939 likes, 101.3× the 29 of your Relatable/Meme content, which you post most. The owned feed leans on high-volume, low-return formats while its real engagement sits in earned creator content.
These eight are drawn from the 200 top creators in the Protein Coffee & Shake niche over the 181-day window, ranked by Total Creator Views, filtered to a spread of reach tiers and platforms, and every one has already posted about a direct competitor. None has posted about Slate, so the relationship would start fresh, and the list leans toward proven protein, coffee and fitness voices.
Combined, these eight reach millions of followers and pulled tens of millions of Creator Tagged Post views in the niche over the window. All eight have already posted about a direct competitor, and none has ever posted about Slate.
Slate has 51 Creator Tagged Posts on Instagram but only 4 on TikTok, despite a 18.9K-follower TikTok feed. The category's highest-reach creator content in the window is on TikTok, where Slate is effectively absent. A standing TikTok creator squad would extend the proven Instagram earned-mention engine onto the platform driving the category's biggest views.
No brand in the category concentrates creators into a retainer, Slate's own ratio is 1.06 Creator Tagged Posts per creator. Repeat advocates like Derek Pratt already post Slate organically and unprompted across multiple months. A small retainer bench would compound an already-working earned signal rather than fix an absence.
Affiliate codes and a loose ambassador roster already appear across Creator Tagged Posts. Slate manages this through Archive today; a tiered, Sup-managed ambassador layer would add structure and reporting. Structured ambassadors turn one-off retail-discovery posts into a renewable content pipeline.
Slate runs 7 live creator-shot UGC ads; UGC over-indexes among the category's 60-day-survivor creatives. The winning paid DNA in this category is UGC and low-production, exactly what Slate already commissions. More creator-shot variants would give the paid account category-cadence testing volume.
Slate's 20g protein iced coffee competes directly with Chike, PRÉS and Throne, yet most Creator Tagged Posts are shake-led. Coffee creators such as mychoyceofcoffee already tag fairlife and Starbucks but have never worked with Slate. A dedicated proffee creator push (morning routine, recipe, desk-coffee) would claim the occasion the proffee set is contesting.
Slate's city-level creator pushes already drive most of its Creator Tagged Posts. With $23M raised to reach 20,000 stores, every new-retailer launch is a geo-cluster trigger. Sup-managed geo creator clusters would put authentic local proof in-market the week each retailer goes live.
We built this report because Slate's creator data is genuinely impressive, a brand already out-earning its whole Proffee category on creator advocacy through a sharp local-creator engine, and we wanted to share what we found. If any of this is useful or you'd like the full creator list behind the numbers, happy to send it over.
